- Physical Walls - Special Walls - Mixed Walls - Bulky Waters - Special Sweepers - Physical Sweepers - Mixed Sweepers - Support Pokemon - The Spiker - The Spinner On a team, each pokemon has a role. The role a pokemon plays depends on what it is best at. A decent team should have a good variety of pokemon with different roles. Walls:Walls are pokemon with good Defense / Sp. Defense and HP. They are designed to take hits from hard hitting pokemon. In general, walls have a good recovery move, such as Roost, Softboiled, and rest. Other Phys. Walls Include: Regirock, Gliscor, Weezing, Rhyperior. Special Walls- the opposite of physical walls, special walls are meant t take special hits. EXAMPLE: Blissey @ Leftovers Ability: Natural Cure EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk) - Seismic Toss - Ice Beam - Sing - Softboiled Blissey has excellent HP and SDef, and a great recovery move, making him the prime Special Wall. Other Mixed Walls Include: Dusknoir, Mesprit and Uxie. Bulky Waters- Bulky Waters are similar to mixed walls due to the fact that they are meant to take both Special and Phyical hits. Sweepers:Pokemon that hit hard and fast, a sweepers job is to hit the opponent hard for massive damage. Special Sweepers- Special sweepers rely on Special moves to hurt the opponent. They often use moves such as Nasty Plot and Calm Mind to hit hard. Another common option for Special Sweepers is Choice Specs. EXAMPLE: Alakazam @ Choice Specs Ability: Synchronize EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk) - Psychic - Shadow Ball - Focus Bomb - Grass Knot with 135 SAtk, and 120 Spd Alakazam is one of THE best special sweepers out there. Other Supporters Include: Blissey, Celebi, Umbreon. Spikers and Spinners:The Spiker- A Pokemon that uses the moves Spikes, Stealth Rock, and the less common Toxic Spikes to deal damage/inflict status on the opponents team as they switch in Pokemon. These Pokemon are best used in conjunction with a Pokemon that uses Whirlwind / Roar, so th opponent is forced to switch more often, and therefore taking more damage. EXAMPLE: Cloyster @ Leftovers Ability: Shell Armor EVs: 252 HP / 176 Def / 80 SAtk Relaxed Nature (+Def, -Spd) - Explosion - Ice Beam - Spikes - Surf Thanks to it's great defense, Cloyster is able to set up spikes somewhat easily. Other Spikers Include: Forretress, Skarmory. The Spinner- This Pokemon uses the move Rapid Spin to eliminate any Spikes, Stealth Rock, or Toxic Spikes on the field. EXAMPLE: Claydol @ Leftovers Ability: Leviatate EVs: 252 HP / 176 Def/ 84 SAtk Relaxed Nature (+Def, -Spd) - Rapid Spin - Explosion - Ice Beam - Earthquake / Landpower Being immune to Toxic Spikes and regular Spikes, and resistant to Stealth Rock makes Claydol a very good spinner. Plus, it can just explode when it's done! :D
That's pretty much it! I hope this guide helps someone.
