Default | Fire | Psychic | Dirt | Dark ..:: Lead Pokemon ::..
Lead Pokemon are the Pokemon you send out first in a battle. This may be a lot more important than you might think. Getting the upper hand early is always nice.
~ Common Leads:- Weavile Hitting hard and fast, Weavile is an ideal lead Pokemon. However, it has been a common lead for so long that people are beginning to expect it, and are therefore specializing leads to tango with it. - Gengar Having a great movepool, speed, and special attack, Gengar is one of the hardest leads to stop. Often times, they hold a Choice Scarf+Hypnosis set for the fast sleep on anything you might be leading with. - Swampert Swampert is often a good lead to have, as it can set up Stealth Rock early in the game while being able to take hits fairly easily. - Hippowdon Like Swampert, Hippowdon is often sent out early to set up Stealth Rock. However, there is one main reason to choose this Hippo over Swampert as lead: Sandstream. Sending out Hippowdon first is great when you have a team that bases itself off the Sand. - Tyranitar Also carrying Sandstream for an ability, Tyranitar is sent out for the same reason as Hippowdon: To set up the sand. However, Tyranitar is often saved for late game purposes, so I personally don't reccomend him as a lead. okay so those are the main 5 "common" leads that I can think of off the top of my head. Now, pretty much all the rest of the leads are counters for these 5. ~ Common Lead Counters:- Breloom Ah, Breloom. In my opinion, the ultimate anti-common lead. It can Mach Punch opposing Weavile into oblivion. It can Seed Bomb Swampert and Hippowdon. If they're ballsy enough to stay in, they're hit with a swift Spore. Tyranitar is destroyed by Mach Punch AND Seed Bomb. The use of Toxic Orb+Protect will shield you from just about any Gengar onslaught: Protect activates Toxic Orb, which makes it's Hypnosis useless, and also locks it in to an attack that you can send out a resist to. - Gyarados Mostly used to counter Weavile. BulkyDos can take quite a few hits from him while setting up Dragon Dances. Same goes for Swampert and Hippowdon. However, he needs to be careful around that darn Tyranitar and Gengar. - Jirachi Jirachi can pretty much counter the likes of Weavile and Gengar (watch out for Hypnosis!). Also, Swampert and Hippowdon don't like taking Psychics all day. Has some trouble with Tyranitar. - RestTalk Metagross A Metagross with a Rest+Sleep Talk set should take care of the Gengar and Weavile leads. Tyranitar won't like Meteor Mashes, but Metagross won't like taking Earthquakes. Metagross leads have trouble with Swampert and Hippowdon. - Choice Scarf Roserade A swift Leaf Storm will send Swampert, Hippowdon, and Tyranitar into oblivion. He can just put Weavile to sleep with Sleep Powder. Unfortunately, this doesn't outspeed Choice Scarf Gengar. - Choice Scarf Heracross Heracross takes next to nothing from Swampert's and Hippowdon's attacks, and can hit back with a STAB Megahorn or Close Combat. With Choice Scarf, it is also able to out speed Weavile and Tyranitar for the OHKO with Close Combat. It can possibly take advantage of a Gengar's Hypnosis with Sleep Talk+Guts, if Gengar is ballsy enought to use it. - Other Fighting Types Yes, pretty much all fighting types with decent defense can take on Weavile, Tyranitar, Swampert, and Hippowdon to an extent. More Pokemon will be added soon! |
